Have a brand new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, which actually is a replacement machine for the first one that arrived with a bent case. I've noticed a noise coming from the optical drive every time the machine wakes from sleep. It lasts only a fraction of a second, but it is quite noticeable. I don't recall my first machine making this sound. Can anyone confirm that their MBP C2D either makes or doesn't make a noise on waking?
Thanks.

mine does that as well (my old powerbook didn't), but it's consistent so I figure that just the way it is. Sounds like the drive checking itself.

my powerbook does it. It does it every time it turns on too. Sounds like it's ejecting a disc.

I agree. It does totally sound like it's attracted to other men.

My powerbook does it too - I think it's detecting if a disc is in the drive. Nothing to worry about.

That's odd. My old powerbook (15" 1.25 GHz) never made that noise. Wonder if it depends on which optical drive you've got.
Or perhaps it's a matter of volume.

The newer optical drives in MBs and MBPs go to sleep. When they wake up they make that sound. That happens when the Mac wakes up or when the drive is suddenly used after it has been left inactive for a while (start Disk Utility or Toast and it will make the noise as well).
