When ever I unplug my Macbook and close the lid it goes to sleep and if I leave it in this condition overnight, the next day when I wake it up the battery usually loses about 7% of its charge. However if I do not close the lid and I leave the computer on overnight, when I wake it up the entire battery is drained down to no charge. My question is is the computer sleeping in this later condition and if so do I have a battery problem. The computer is about three months old. Thanks for any info.

It sounds fine to me. Battery drain is normal for leaving it asleep. If you leave it on, then it definetly will be dead the next day since the battery life isn't as long as most people sleep. Welcome to MacNN!

I don't even know if it is sleeping when the lid is up, the screen goes black after a few minutes but the white indicator light stays at full strength, where as when the lid is closed it pulses.

A steady white light means that only your display is sleeping. This is to let you know the computer is on, because, with a completely back screen, how was else would you be able to tell?

You can change your sleep settings in System Preferences > Energy Saver.

If only your display is sleeping, then your battery will definitely drain.
