Hello.
I have a trusty iBook 1.07GHz (768 MB, Tiger, Airport). It's 2 and 3/4 years old. The Motherboard and HDD have both been replaced twice under Applecare - most recently last month.
When it returned from it's most recent Applecare adventure I noticed the computer would occasionally hang. The symptoms are a 'twonk' noise from the HDD followed by cessation of whatever iTunes track is playing. The system still responds - i can Apple Tab through running programs (normally iTunes, Safari, Messenger, Entourage and Azureus) cursor still responds, at least initially. Eventually it beachballs in everything and I am forced to hard reboot.
SMART Status is fine, and the Verify Disk in Disk Utility reports no imminent failure. The Logs are also silent on the matter.
I immediately sent this back to Apple and they were of course unable to replicate the behaviour. The computer returns and exhibits this behaviour intermittently, perhaps 2 -4 days apart.
There is nothing i can see in the logs - no crash report is generated.
My query is this... how do i document this behaviour in such a fashion that I can prove it's existence to Apple? I am currently running it 24/7 in the hopes this will force a more significant/permenant failure.
Thanks in advance.
