Hi, I recently switched to using Macs, and I bought the new macbook intel core 2 duo, 13 inch, black with 2GB of memory and 160GB hard drive. After a week, I got the following panic log. I am not exactly sure how to read this and find the error or what caused the crash. I d appreciate your help. I left home, shut the screen and put the laptop in sleep mode. when i got back, it wouldnt wake up. also, i need to tell you that i am using a bluetooth mouse from targus, that did not explicitly say that is supported by Macs, even though it is recognizable by the Macbook. Thanks in advance!

The panic was caused by your CPU. Why, exactly, is beyond me. But the first thing to do when you can't power on a Mac is to reset the SMC (System Management Controller). Please note, however, that after doing this you will have to reset your Date & Time preferences.

To do this, folllow these steps:
--------------------------------------
1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

I hope this helps for at least getting it to power on again. As far as the panic goes, you could try searching the internet with information from the first line. For example, run a search for "cpu 0 caller 0x001A31CE".

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I was able to power up the laptop right after it panicked, by holding down the power key for a couple of seconds without removing the AC and the battery (I posted the message above, after I did this). Do you think I should now, do what you suggested? I also run a verification and fixing of permissions with Disk Utility. Lastly, I googled a lot of combinations from the panic.log file, but even with simply "0x001A31CE" I couldnt find a match anywhere on the net. Fortunately, since yesterday at least, I havent had any other problems with the laptop. Would you suggest getting it back to an apple store? Or could this have been just a one-time random incidence?

Thanks again

Personally, I'd ignore it. Make sure you have everything important backed up, and it if it happens again, take it in. If it doesn't happen again, no worries. You could definitely call Apple or head down to a Genius bar and ask them about the panic though. Maybe print it out and show it to them.
