Received my new MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz with 2GB of ram on November 20.
When my wife plays the chess game included with the laptop, both shoot up to 50% and fluctuate to 100%, spending a lot of time near 70 - 90%.
Subsequently, the fans kick in like mad - very loud and the heat emanating from the MacBook is uncomfortable.
Using smcFanControl, the temp remains at 80-83 degress Centigrade and the fan runs at 6216 rpm throughout the duration of the game.
This does not seem normal/acceptable? Especially for the stock chess game?
Also, when there are no other apps running except for Firefox, if I merely visit CNN, the processors shoot up to 40-50% with corresponding fan activity.
I've been able to determine that when visiting flash or video sites, this taxes the processors quite a lot and subsequently the fan.
I can understand if some activity is processor intensive, but again, playing the stock chess game or visiting websites renders my laptop almost unusable since it gets so hot.
Any advice?
