Last week my daughter caught the power lead of my old faithful 1.33 Gz Aibook sending it spinning onto our tile floor. Can you guess what happened to it?

Well the case was pretty battered and the dvd drive packed in but the screen held together and the drive was OK, though it may have taken some damage as it became a bit flakey after that with locking up all the time when reading large data files.

Anyway I phoned our home insurance (Norwich Union - who quoted me fairly happy a while back) and they collected the machine next day after I had moved all my data off.

Two days later, beyond ecomonic repair, would sir like a shiney new 2 Gig Core2Duo MacBook Pro back instead?

er OK!

arrives Monday.

I'm super chuffed and guessing that it should kick my old PB's butt performance wise even using Psop etc under rosetta.

Anyway, big up to NU for being so swift. recommended!

That's why Mag-safe was developed.

Why didn't you have to pay a deductible?

I'd like to know why you claimed it on your homeowner's insurance.

My grandmother made some small claims like that on her policy, and after a year or so her premiums went through the roof. Turns out it was because of all the claims...
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

Well, I claimed on our houshold insurance because it was an accident at home! With one claim in the past 20 years I'm sure they aren't worried about a blizzard of claims from us. I suppose I could have paid from my own money but hey, that's what insurance is for and when I looked in my wallet there was a curious lack of £1500.

OK, yes I have paid a £50 excess but it's still a good deal and the service was 1st rate. Looking forward to seeing what the new machine can do!

my story for of beats that. i had a powerbook g4 17
my hard drive died 8 months out of warranty.
my local apple store sent it out to be fixed.
they sent it back, sort of fixed, a couple of more issues with the monitor. inted of fixing it, brand new macbook pro.
a week later core duo 2 comes out, they upgrade me for less than 10% restocking fee.
i love my local store and love mac...
i also got the 3 year warranty to be on the safe side this time..
