I was browsing my emails with the ibook g4 800 Mhz, then suddenly the screen turns black. I hit the powerbutton shortly but then it shut down completely (hearing a plop, similar to when you hold the powerbutton for a few seconds to shut the machine off / aka hard reset)

after that I tried to boot but it won't.

I hit the powerbutton, i hear the empty dvd-rom drive kick in on the right, then the harddisk on the leftside of the machine, then it shuts down. all this takes no more than 2 seconds.

i tried this running on battery alone, no succes
on the powersupply alone, no succes
on both battery and powersupply, no succes
keeping the powerbutton pressed for a few seconds, no succes
PRAM reset, not enough time for that
inserting the Tiger DVD won't work because 2 seconds of powering up is not enough to suck in the dvd

Sounds like the internal power board died or the motherboard died. Not much you can do there except have Apple take a look at it. Sorry to hear about your problem.

I fixed my dead ibook !

I took off battery and powercord. left the ibook dead for two days so the logic board would reset itself due to a lack of power. then booted on the battery with CTRL+ALT+POWERBUTTON, and...Boooiiing

PB2K

Is your iBook still working? Mine had the same problem, but now it refuses to boot at all. Mine's the G3/600 with the wire that goes from the mobo through a hinge to the display.

It's either $280 for Apple to put in a new mobo, or get a MacBook for lots more. Hmmmm.
