Received my MacBook last week. The only sound to come out of it is the start up sound. In the system preferences I am unable to move or adjust the volume control of the output sound. Have reinstalled OSX disks. Don't know what else to do. Help!

Do realize that the speakers on the MacBook are there almost for show. The sound is horrible. Even with the volume turned all the way up, a moderate amount of ambient noise can drown them out.

I had the same problem with my macbook over the summer. The speakers wouldnt show up in the output sound devices. I ended up calling apple and they replaced my machine. Best of luck to you
