My new friend is going back home. Apple decided that something is wring with my new MBP and allowing me to send it back. My speakers only work about 50%. If the output volume (maxed out in every app and setting) is at 50% you can't hear anything coming out of the speakers. At 100% it sounds like half of the volume on my PowerBook 1.67 DL. Oh well.

I haven't seen anything here about this type of problem, but wanted to ask if anyone knew what might cause this.

This MBP is flawless except for this issue. I wish I could ignore it, but I need my built in spekers at work for audible alerts, etc.

That's unfortunate, but it sounds like a relatively easy repair (pun intended).

They're replacing the unit with a new one; just sent it back last night. Looking forawrd to getting back on a MBP.

good luck... i had a powerbook g4, and the local store replaced it with a mbp with all of the bells and whistles...
