My 1.33 Ghz iBook G4 is only sending sound through the left channel. The right speaker doesn't work, and neither does the right side of my headphones when plugged into the laptop.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is my sound card pooched?

I had the same problem some time ago, it was intermittent. But i had to change my mother board for other reasons and fixed this problem too.

It's a bug with all iBook G4s, from what I can tell. I don't know if its the OS or firmware or what, but it happens intermittently. To fix it, open up System Preferences, choose "Sound", then the "Output" tab and slide the balance back to the middle.

Thanks terribly. I hadn't even noticed the balance, nor thought of looking at it. I guess it says "Junior member" here for a reason.

It's okay, it's a really odd bug that Apple has left unfixed for a surprisingly long time.

I have similar problem with the unbalanced sound as well. However, it's not limited to my iBook G4 (mid-2005). It happens on my DP G4 1.25 and my sister's iBook G3/800 (10.3.9)
