Hi my iBook G4 1.2ghz recently was fried in a power surge and I'm getting a new MacBook for christmas, I'm just wondering what my options are for transfering my files off my old iBook harddrive onto the MacBook. External hard drive enclosure? I'd like some links to what I should buy, if possible i'd like to do it without having to send away my iBook somewhere, but if that's my only option than I'll do that.

Thanks.

How "dead" is your iBook? Do you know if the HD even works? If you can get it to boot into target mode, all you'll have to do is allow the migration assistant to move everything over for you over a fire wire cable. If the iBook is totally dead but the HD in good shape, you'll need to stick it in an external case. I'd check out newegg .

Getting your old HD out of the iBook will be the main problem (not as user-friendly as the macbook). You can follow the guide here if you need help.

Try booting into target mode if you haven't already, it's the easiest solution. Otherwise, good luck.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I had never even thought of trying target mode, so I gave it a shot and my computer which I once though was gone for good came back to life! It works again! I've been having to use a 400$ Dell Desktop for the last 5 months because I thought my beautiful iBook was destroyed, but It works again!!!
