My MacBook is connected to my stereo using Airport Express. When I use iTunes to play a song through the remote speakers and use the MacBook remote control to increase the volume, the following happens:
1. The system sound volume icon appears on the MacBook screen and shows the volume increasing, but has no effect on the actual sound level.
2. When the system sound level reaches the top of the scale and I keep pressing the remote, the iTunes volume indicator starts to increase but the actual sound level does increase.
3. If I now press decrease on the remote, the system sound level icon indicates a decrease, but there is no change in the actual sound. If I continue pressing the remote decrease, the indicated system level drops to zero, but there is no subsequent reduction of the iTunes volume .
In other words, I can use the remote to turn the volume up but not down.
Anyone have any ideas? Like why does changing the system volume have no effect on the actual remote speaker volume? (It does when you listen to the computer output on headphones).
