Do you think If I install osx on http://www.hscjpn.co.jp/new_article....id=319&s=0 I can just use the harddrive as a storage device or will that not work?

I'm not sure, but i've wanted to do something like that too. Wouldn't it be almost instantaneous boot up?

Curious to see, gonna do more research, thanks for the info

You won't see the advantage of a hybrid (flash+disk) drive unless the OS supports it and knows what to do with it. If you use it with OSX or Windows XP, it will just act like a normal drive without the flash memory.

edit: Oops, I thought this was the hybrid drive, not just a flash drive. Until OSX is designed to take advantage of it like Vista, I don't think you'll see any benefit from it.

Some more info on that card. But, ouch, really pricey...

Looks like the bigger sizes will be available Dec 20th. Heres' the company's email address: support@hscjpn.co.jp They should be happy to tell you where it can be found.

Also wondering if OS X will boot from it. Let us know if you get the chance to try it.

Thanks for all the info, i'll be in Tokyo in January...will take a train ride to the apple store and see if it's there.

If I find one there, i'll pick it up, have several uses for it, and am really curious to see if it will boot OSX.

It really all depends on how fast the card is... not all flash is significantly faster than a hard drive. For sustained transfer, a hard drive would probably be faster. For a lot of random accesses, the flash would be faster. You'd definitely see some improvement if you were booting from that instead of a hard drive, but it's probably not worth 52800円.

A lot of things not worth what we pay for them...it all depends on what you're using it for...and how much time and effort is saves us when we use that piece of technology...and in my job it's tax deductible, so not too concerned about cost.
