I am purchasing a MBP in the next few days. To complete the package, i want to replace the keyboard with a german keyboard layout. I spoke with people at our apple store, who weren't sure of what to do. I spoke with apple care, they wouldn't sell me one. I emailed the websites of both .com and .de, no response from either. I am ordering with an employee rebate so i can't order from the .de website, on top of the fact that they have an added tax, freight, etc that drives up the cost well beyond what it should be. Also, ebay is useless.

I don't want to use a plastic protector with drawn on letters, i want the real thing. I realize now after searching these forums and speaking with a few people that i'm apparently the only person on the planet who wants to do this. That notwithstanding, this is something i'd like to do, and i'm asking you for suggestions on the best way to acquire a german keyboard replacement for MBP.

Thanks,
Boobavon

I can't say about German, but I know that in Dubai it is easy enough to order a replacement keyboard in Arabic (and the same for a Thai one in Bangkok). You can probably take your Mac to a shop next time you are in Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

You'll probably have to pay a bit more and they will not be able to swap out your English one (a swap is cheaper since they credit you for the old part, but thay need to be identical).

As to getting it in the US, when I worked at an Apple dealer, we could order Japanese, Spanish and I think French. You might try a more independent Apple dealer and say you only want to buy the "Service Part".
