OK when I used to close the lid on my MBP it would shut down the HDs everytime and go to sleep. The last 3 times i have done it it just keeps running, everything still running, except the backlight of the screen will turn off, but programs still up and all.

i have the same issue...i hate how the new mbp sleep behavior is as oppose to the old pb.

i just open and press a few keys to get the screen going again and close.

its best to select the sleep option or simply hitting apple, option, eject.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I had the same issue and the PMU reset used to temporarily fix it. I sent it to apple and looks like they replaced my lid to fix the issue. The genius told me it was some kind of problem with the magnet in the lid.
