Would I get a significant bump in performance with the MacBook? Is it worth the upgrade.
if you're a heavy adobe user, you should be aware that macbooks are using new Intel hardware, and Adobe hasn't yet updated their software to make full use of it. Early next year Adobe will release CS3 for Intel hardware, which will make the most of the macbook, that's when you'll see the real boost. the difference in performance is enormous, but not yet realised in Adobe software.
Even if you're running a top-end Powerbook, the performance on macbook will be easily double even on a basic model, in some cases 3x or 4x faster, depending on what you're doing. for now Adobe products will run at about the same speed as your powerbook, until they release CS3.
in the long run, yes it will be worth it, your macbook will be hugely snappier
