my formerly awesome 12 inch pb isn´t booting ... again. I had a similar problem over the summer which resulted in a new logic board to the tune of 340ish dollars. Here´s what happened..

I use the PB at home connected to an external monitor. Before packing it up, I shut the laptop down (usually I just put it to sleep), and disconnected the DVI and USB lines. A day later I tried to boot it up, but not even the screen turns on. The fan turns on and spins for about 5 seconds at full speed, then shuts off. Then, nothing. CAPS lock works, and thats all. I tried a PRAM reset, which didnt solve the problem either.

Im thinking that the pb still thinks its connected to an external monitor... unfortunatly i dont have the adapter with me to test it. I tried removing the battery, resets... im stumped now.

Before, the power management unit failed, but the screen still came on white/grey. Now, im not even sure if the hard disk spins up... (i dont think it does but cant be 100% sure.)

any ideas?

No, it's not thinking it's still connected to the monitor. Even if it was, resetting the PRAM would fix that. Have you tried resetting the PMU?

If you had a similar problem and a recent repair, I would check the warranty period on the repair. If the warranty is still valid, you would want to make sure that its not the logic board again before the warranty expires.

I would check what disk utility says about your current hard drive. Good luck.

DIsk util reports no problems. I took it to genious bar and they diagnosed it as bad logic board. so another 330 to fix (just had logic board replaced in august).

anyway, I called apple and asked them if there was anything they could do, and amazingly enough, they said they would fix it for free. computer was back 3 days after dropping it off, and works like new. i even got a new keyboard.

woohoo
