Hey guys, I am a pretty serious multi-instrument musician and I am very interested in recording on my own. I am looking for a laptop that would be capable of handling recording several layers of tracks, and also be durable enough so that if I were to take it to my live shows I could record and not worry too much about the product breaking.

My question is, what would be a preferable choice for me, a macbook, or a macbook pro?

Thanks in advance.

well the difference would be the macbook shares the system ram for intergrated video so you would have less available ram (which isnt that much) for having multiple audio and/or midi tracks with a bunch of plug-ins. with a macbook pro you have dedicated video. other than that screen size is a factor for recording programs; more screen more things you can have onscreen at once, and mbp has fw800 which a number of audio interfaces use. the mbp has a max ram @ 3gb when the MB's is only 2 again the more ram you have the more tracks and plugins you can have running at once.
