Hello,
My trusty TiBook is no longer quite so trustworthy (550mhz G4/768/100g/Airport). Shortly after upgrading to a 100g HD the FW port quit working... and then the CDR drive started giving serious grief. I was wiping the laptop down when I noticed 2 very fine cracks in the lid -- not easy to see them but another indication of advanced age and a lot of use.
My question: is this TiB worth selling "as is" or would I be better off selling the parts -- I image the HD and Airport make up most of the value (although to be fair to the TiBook, it still functions just fine and I'm using it to make this post.)
Perhaps there is more value in keeping the laptop and using it for.... ??
I appreciate your suggestions.
Carl

I think fixing it up would be too expensive
You might float it 'as is' to see if anyone bites at your price, and maybe list separately in parts

I would try and part out or sell as is. Welcome to MacNN!

You should check completed auctions on eBay. From a brief look, it seems that you would not get that much if you sold it as is. You would net significantly more money if you disassemble and sell the parts separately, although that would take a lot more time and effort.
However, unless you need the $$$ for an upgrade, I might consider holding on to it as a spare machine for web browsing or low intensity tasks. (I likewise use my 500 mhz G3 Pismo for internet radio or Skype while I am working on my G4 1.33 PB)
BTW, parts for your TiBook are available on eBay, and if you feel like taking a try at it yourself, ifixit has guides to show you how.

I appreciate your comments. I'm leaning toward parting it out, as I can easily use the 100gb drive in an enclosure and the Airport card in my wife's G3 iBook. As for the carcass, well, if anyone here wants it bad enough to cover shipping, let me know.
As for "modding it out", I don't know what that would be but I'm open to suggestions!
thanks,
Carl

I'll take it and give you a free bonus. I fix up old PBs for local users group to loan out to members who need a loaner while theirs is in shop etc....

Romeosc: that sounds like a good cause and a fitting place for the TiBook. Consider it "sold".
best,
Carl
