I currently have an emac 512mb ram, usb 1.1 and firewire. For portability and also to get usb 2 as lot of devices are usb 2 only these days, (e.g. the new ipods) I was thinking of getting a MacBook. Just wondered if all my current software (I belive called powerpc software) will work on the the new intel macbooks? I will eventually upgrade to universal software but can’t afford it right now, so my understanding is that all the powerpc software on my emac will work on the intel machines it just won’t be as fast as the universal software?

So therefore my current versions of Adobe CS, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, Microsoft Office and Toast (to mention the main ones) will work on a macbook at around the same speed that they currently work on my emac? I’m pretty sure I will get a macbook as opposed to macbook pro, but will they all work on macbook pro as well?

And my main confusion is about Final Cut Pro 4.5 and associated programs (e.g. Soundtrack, DVD Studio Pro) will it work on a macbook and or macbook pro? Or do I have to upgrade to FCP 5 studio. At the moment I really don’t want to upgrade so as long as I know it works at the same speed as my emac that would be fine with me at the moment until I can afford the upgrade. Also I have some unfinished projects in FCP4.5 which I want to complete as I believe you can’t open them anyway in FCP 5? Most of my software was bought at academic rates and as I am no longer studying it’s going to be a huge expense for me to get the full software so if I can live with the software I’ve got at the moment would be best for me.

So if my current software will work on the macbook and be no slower than emac speeds I’ll probably buy a macbook. Advice would be appreciated please.
