sorry, this has appeared before but I love my macbook and am extremely worried:

I was carrying my macbook along with other books and dropped it approximately two or three feet onto a hardwood floor. It seemed to have fallen at a pretty lucky angle though because everything appears fine: I can open saved documents, save new stuff, shut down and restart the computer. basically, everything seems fine. however, the sounds my computer makes when shutting down are kind of different (I think they're a bit off but I may just be paranoid). I looked on other sites about dropped macbooks and most of them (after similar falls) had broken screens and destroyed hard drives so I'm hesitant to say that it's all fine.. thus, I'm wondering if I should go to the store and have them check it out or if that would be unecessary. thanks in advance, I really need this laptop because I;m a poor student and it contains my life.

Consider yourself lucky and invest in a well padded case to protect your investment and data.

I dropped my Macbook awhile back, about the same height and onto concrete instead of hardwood. It has a few scuffs, but it's running like a champ. No problems.

Making a backup makes sense whether you dropped the machine or not if it's your life, but unless you see some weird behavior or hear some strange noises, I wouldn't get too worried.

Sounds may be the optical drive. Try putting a disc in to see if it's working.
