It rarely happens under OSX (but it does happen) and happens all the time under Xp.

They'll take the laptop into service, keep it for a while, and return it.
The problem may or may not be fixed.

Do you have all the firmware updates? I think the update fixed the problem for about 95% of people (certainly did for me, and now I love my macbook again).

If you give more details about the problem (when it shuts down, is the fan roaring, etc.) that may help a bit...

You should not accept a machine that shuts off randomly. Make sure you do all the updates (click on the Apple logo in the top left hand corner, then Software Update)

Good luck!

Well I went and did the update so I will see what happens.

9 out of 10 times it would first shut down as soon as cranked up Rangarok under Xp. After the initial shut down, every time I hit the power button, it comes on for a sec and shuts right back down.

Like I say this is/was/maybe still is mainly a windows prob. Maybe its just me, but under XP my fans run from simply surfing the web.

If it continues i'm taking it in.
