Hello..

I have been using this ibook for about two years...
After a year since i go the ibook, its logic board failed and had to be replaced. Two days later it failed again and had to be replaced... luckily it was under warranty so it was ok...
however since the replacement the computer seem to have gotten slow... and its progressively getting slower and slower.....
Its a g4 1.33
256 ram (i know i need more ram.. but that still does not explain the progressive speed change)
any ideas...

thanks

I know the RAM might not explain the progressive speed change directly but there are some other things you can take from that. First and foremost 256MB of RAM is simply not enough, your computer would probably feel 3-4X faster if you were to pop at least 768MB in there.

Remember as time goes on and you get new programs and install stuff technology advances. Newer programs can utilize more memory than they used to and different programs you may be using can use memory in different ways. My biggest guess is that you are way too low on your RAM and applications are taking advantage of that. It's in your best interest to spend about $80 and fix your problem. If you've been able to use the laptop sufficiently with only 256 for this long, an increase will make the machine feel like a brand new computer.

one explanation could be the time that has past since you installed the OS...
This isn't the same as with windows, where you have to re-install the system every two months, but in some cases, some slow down could happen, maybe due to the HD becoming filled and the virtual memory swap not having enough space...
And also, the number os apps installed may have increased, and maybe you have some more processes runing, which could slow down the mac.
This are just guesses.

That's a lot of work for the wrong idea. It more than likely won't help that much to do that.

frank's been having some problems lately. let's lay off him. one of the things we should expect at macworld later today is a PLEA from s. jobs to allow longer signiatures.
