I'm going to be making the move to Mac from Windows and need advice on whether or not I should get a Macbook.
I would be using it for all the basic stuff (internet, chatting, dvd's, word etc) plus some image editing on illustrator CS3 when it comes out and video editing on iMovie.
I already have Dell desktop which I will be keeping and will hopefully be getting a Dell widescreen Monitor which I can hook it upto when I'm at home.
I have few questions though to help me make up my mind.
1, How good is the Macbook as a laptop overall?
2, Has anyone experienced any problems?
3, Would I need a graphics card for using illustrator or editing videos on iMovie?
4, Would I need 2gb of RAM for what I need to do, and if so, does anyone know any good suppliers of Apple RAM in the UK or Ireland as the Apple RAM is expensive and I'd prefer to buy the Macbook in a store.
If anyone has any other advice it would be great!
Thanks in advance!

3. Well, yes, you need a graphics card to display an image on the screen. Fortunately the MacBook has one! Assuming you're trying to ask if you need a discrete graphics card, rather than the integrated graphics in the MacBook, the answer is no; neither Illustrator nor iMove make much use of the graphics card.
4. Apple MacBook upgrades from Crucial.com ships to the UK and EU.

1. The macbook is a very good laptop. It gets around 3+ hours of battery life. It has a very sharp screen. The 13inch widescreen is still large enough to use w/o hooking it up to an external display.
2. There were some major issues with the first CD models but for the most part those issues have been resolved. I have a week 35 CD and have had no issues with it at all.
3. As mduell stated the integrated graphics card will work well with those two programs. I have used iMovie to make a few movies and have had no issues whatsoever.
4. I had 512 stock for a few months but then upgraded to 2gb. The newer models come stock with 1gb which will run fine but if you have the money you might as well upgrade.. You wont regret it.

Wait until after Steve Jobs' keynote tomorrow before making any purchase decisions.

It's a great laptop, sounds like it would fit your needs perfectly. I would wait until after MacWorld to see if there is something cool around the corner, and definately upgrade the ram to at least 1 gb.

It's a great laptop and all, but you gotta watch out for those razor sharp edges, and as for the LCD it seems like the color is kinda faded to me, but thats problably because i'm a long time pc user.
anyone here have any good macbook color profiles for me?
I'm selling my macbook for 1100, its a C2D 2.0ghz one, it has 1gb ram and 80gb hard drive. Its only been used for 1 week, got it on christmas. The same Macbook would cost you around 1450 shipping+tax. The only tax I want you to pay is the paypal 3%

I don't know about you, but I've decided to stop buying laptops and switch over to the iPhone when it becomes available in June. It's perfect for when I travel on business.
Goodbye LG CU500 with a crap UI designed by a dorky e-tard (same goes for my Moto, Sanyo, S-E, etc.).
