I've been trying to send this message to Apple:
Dear Apple,
My dot Mac accounts aren't working properly.
Using the latest Safari (2.0.4)--I've kept it updated
through the System's Software Update Preference
Panel--the webpage for using my dotMac accounts makes
the emailer unusable.
I'm using system 10.4.8 on a 17" 1 MHz Powerbook.
I can't read a good bit of the type face on the
screen; it's covered up with other type that's all
smushed together and covered up in other places with
tiny icons. This is a problem with using Safari
generally, not just with your email webpage. Many
other things don't work with Safari, as well--for
example, I can't use the page down button on my Apple
keyboard any longer; it skips over several lines. At
one time it did work properly with Safari, though
Safari has been all messed up for a very long time,
whether or not I've just reformatted and reinstalled
everything trying to make it usable. (The typeface on
other browsers doesn't display properly either, and
reformatting/reinstalling doesn't help them either.)
Still using your Safari on your dot Mac account
website, I no longer have any means onscreen with
which to send an email; there are no buttons for that
purpose. There's no Outbox showing up on the account
page, and no preferences to look through to fix it.
And since my emailer, Mailsmith, has been having no
luck in contacting your smtp servers--this has been
going on for 13 months now--I can't use my email
accounts with dot Mac to send mail. My emailer
version, 2.1.5, has remained the same since just
after I bought it a couple of years ago and used to
work fine with the dot Mac account. I've reformatted
and reinstalled everything several times in an
attempt to be able to send mail using my dot Mac
account and still nothing works. Sending mail from my
dot Mac accounts is critical to be able to do in
certain situations--for instance, in opting out of
receiving email messages daily from vendors I've done
business with.
I notice that I've also lost my address book on the
dot Mac account website, though there's apparently a
way to search through it. Of course, since I can't
use the website to send mail, the loss of my address
book isn't critical.
I expect these problems might surprise you, as I'm
sure you wouldn't have intentionally made your dot
Mac accounts unusable or the Safari browser perform
so poorly. So I've taken a screen shot and could send
it to you too.
Thanks very much for your help.
The contact Apple icon has disappeared from my Dock,
so I'm having to guess now at how I might get in
touch with you.
Sincerely,
Mary Grimsley

1MHz powerbook?
Is it a powerbook or macbook pro? What's the real processor speed? Do you have any way to post the screenshot here?
Have you tried with another browser, like firefox?

No Mary, your computer has most definitely not been hacked. Have you tried using a different browser?

You have changed text size in Safari.
Go to View menu & check to see size larger or smaller
or go to Preferences (command ",") and select Times 16 and fixed width 13
PS. I wouldn't put name & telephone number in posts. since some "bots" might pick it up and distribute!

It is possible that your ISP is now blocking port 25 for SPAM prevention reasons. If this is the case, open your preferences and look for the "Server port" option for the SMTP settings for your Outgoing mail server. Change it from 25 to 587. Here is how it looks in Mail (with port 25 still selected):
