I am looking at getting a refurbished Macbook Pro off the apple website for $1350. I just want to know if this is a good idea or not. Is a refurbised mac a good way to go since I don't want to spend the $2000 for a brand new macbook pro? I just want to know if this is going to be like a new computer or is this a computer that someone owned, beat up and they sent it back to get fixed, or what? Can anyone fill me in on the details of a refurbished macbook Pro.

You will not be dissapointed with a apple macbbok pro refurbished unit.

Remember they go through a process to make sure they are o.k to resell.
That means them changing parts-runnign through tests etc.

Sometimes a refurb is way better then a new one-when their new their assembled and packaged thats it. When their refurbished their repackaged and tested.

Refurbs are better in most cases because they are handled by people before they ship. they are hand tested by apple. go for it. =]

Are there any blemishes on the hardware or scratches or any cosmetic damages to the macbook pro if I get the refurbed one?

I ordered a MacBook Pro refurb before Christmas. It arrived warped, it would not sit flat on the table. The strip of metal above the release latch was also bowing outward. It also could not read any burned DVDs. I returned it. The replacement for that arrived with the same bowing outward above the latch. And it could not burn CDs or DVDs. And the iSight didn't work. I finally returned it and got a refund, and just bought a new C2D MBP. No problems with this one.

Exactly what happened with me. Perhaps you received the one I sent back! It used to be Apple refurbs were better than average, but some recent refurbs clearly have not been competently inspected.

I too recieved a MBP with a warped piece right above the latch. I think that must be where they take the case apart or something. Either way, mine was only bent very minimally, and other than that it's a perfect C2D. I recommend a refurb because of my experience, but it seems like your odds of getting a perfect one are up in the air.

I basically did what you are considering, but back in November. I guess the case being bent out above the latch button is a common problem, because mine has the same thing. I pushed it in with the round part of a lighter, which helped push it back in, though it has bowed out slightly since. Other than that one "problem", which i am happy to live with, there has been nothing else the matter with it and I was very happy to pay $500 less for an awesome computer.

I say do it. There should be no reason why you shouldn't be able to return it if you are not satisfied.
