reposting this in the right forum:

Ive used a PC all my life and I will be buying a MacbookPro within the month. I'm a college student planning on going into filmmaking/graphic design so the move the Mac made sense. Obviously as a college kid I dont have all the much to spend so I have been looking at a refurbished Mac wanting to keep my expense under 1700ish bucks. I have seen the 15" MacbookPro's Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 gig ram, 2.16 ghz, etc for 1600. My question is will this be enough to run my programs?

Im planning on running finial cut along with adobe programs (photoshop, indesign)...altho it will be light work at this point. Will it be worth it to wait and save up a little more for the 2.33 and 2gig ram. I also thought of maybe just updating the ram in the future when i needed to.

I could wait but sometimes when it comes to electronics you can end up waiting forever. If I wait til next fall to get the bigger machine something else 2x better will come out that ill 'wait' to save up for ...you know the deal. So again...will i have problems just going with the smaller machine?

This will do everything you want and more, but the big question is: where did you see such a great deal? Is this university pricing (and US dollars)?

The extra few megahertz aren't going to matter, but you're going to want to upgrade the machine to 2GB (Core Duo) or 3GB (Core 2 Duo) ASAP. I'd go for a $1500ish refurb with 1GB (single module) with AppleCare ($239), then save for the rest of the RAM you're going to want.

The Apple Store (U.S.) click on "Looking for a great deal?"

Currently they only have two 17" models for $800 off list price, but the inventory is always changing.

i would say get the best machine that you can with the most amount of ram you can. i noticed that the apps you plan on using as some that i use and they are memory hogs so to speak... the speed will not make that big of a difference, it is the ram in this scenario.

Well i know this guy named "JAVIZUN: and he is selling his macbook pro with 2gb ram & 160gb harddrive for 2000.

Is the core 2 duo 2.33 top of the line machine.

You should send him a message he is a really cool guy and sold some stuff over in the marketplace & have 100% feedback on ebay. He a certified veteran member of MACNN so you can trust him.

I think is a great deal if you ask me.

You can buy the same 3 year AppleCare that is offered for new machines anytime within your first year of ownership.
