I usually put my notebook in a sleeve and in my backpack. I keep it on Sleep since I find it pointless to turn it off since I use it so much during class and in between my classes when I have some free time. My question is: Is it okay to leave my notebook in Sleep while in its sleeve? Or can ventilation or heat pose a problem?

It's fine. There are no heat issues when it is asleep as it isn't really running.

There shouldn't be any ventilation or heat issues, but my boss swears by turning it off if you're moving around much (ie class to class). While the hard drive is supposed to spin down, he doesn't like taking the risk of data loss to save ~20 seconds of startup time.
