Hi all,

I have an old 400mhz Titanium Powerbook, 256mb RAM, running Panther. Okay, it will not run an iTunes movie worth crap, no matter how small I make the window, however, it will play full screen DVDs without issue, and also, it'll play full screen mp4 movies that I've made using Handbrake without issue, any ideas? Is there any way to export the iTunes movie and convert it to something the old girl can handle easier???

Thanks,
Tom

Get more RAM maybe. iTunes Store files are protected and not easily cracked.

Like Big Mac said, it's unlikely that you can convert the iTMS movie. Before the upped the encoding, a 400MHz G4 could handle video, but since they started releasing stuff at a higher quality, it's just no longer enough. Decoding DVDs and decoding the iTunes MPEG movies are two different things.

I would bump up the RAM to as high as you can go....

Panther running on 256 MBs of RAM is painful....

I would also use the freeware program called VLC. It is not as demanding on the CPU as QuickTime Player is...

I also have an old TiBook 400 Mhz and QuickTime player will stutter playing some mp4s. But using VLC with the same movies offers much smoother playback.....
