Startup speed seems acceptable to me. There are two caveats to that though. 1) I always put my book to sleep when moving it, otherwise it is always running. The only time it restarts is when i do a software update and it requires it. 2) I start up in verbose mode (TinkerTool can make the change for you) so instead of staring at a blank blue screen i am staring at a black screen with lots and lots of text scrolling past. It keeps me mildly amused while it boots. It's also a nice thing to do in case a boot fails, you can often see the problem right on the screen.

I've never shut my MBP down on purpose. Anytime I restart it is always becuase of a software update.

Are there any advantages to never shutting it down? Or just to save the start up time?

thanks for the info.
i never really restart much either.
when i had windows i would shutdown and restart when moving the machine.
now with the Mac i close the lid and bring it anywhere,,,
like i bring it to work everyday and have no issues...

There's no real reason to shut down. As long as the latch light is pulsing it is safe to move.

If you are planning on leaving it in sleep mode for an extended period without external power I would shut down. But even then RAM should be written to the HD if the battery gets too low.
