hi. just bought a used ibook off craigslist. its my second used mac (formerly an imac snow owner). anyway, bought it from a girl who was moving out of state/home after graduation. it's definitley not stolen so no worries (it was the same name on the apartment buzzer as what is on the ibook). unfortunately it is locked--in login mode. no password. tried to reach her at old number to no avail. ugh. tried to reboot from os x disk and reinstall, get the weirdest icon. can anyone help?

What do you mean by locked in login mode?. And what kind of icon is that "weirdest icon" you mention? (description? pic?). It seems strange that you can't boot it off the install disc...
Maybe it has the OF password activated?.
Please elaborate. It's the only way we can help you.

Y no entienden nada... ¡y cómo se divierten!...

i insert the disk. i press c to boot from the disk and there are 2 pictures. numbered 1 and 2. on the right is number 1. it is a picture of 2 aa batteries being inserted. then image no. 2 is the battery door being locked and a flashing red light. is this part of the process of it erasing the old and starting fresh or is there something wrong? the battery is fully charged and the power cord is attached. ?????

Could you tell us more specific about the iBook? model, processor, etc.

Do you still have the iMac? I'm wondering can you do a target disk mode or boot from an external hard drive on the iBook.

Do you have this computer plugged in when you try to boot from the disc? I think the screen you're getting is saying that the battery is low. That's an educated guess, but it's always a good idea to do "intensive" stuff with laptops plugged in to AC power.
