Hello,

When running Windows OS on MacBook Pro, I notice the temperature of the MacBook Pro rises to around 40C to 42C, also, I can hear the fan going. Would this ever damage the laptop?

What causes this and what is the best way to reduce the heat when running WinXp apart from taking it and use it in the Northern tip most of Finland !!

Thanks

Mine only seems to get that way when I'm using heavy GPU apps - rest of the time, it's just fine.

High powered laptops have always been hot when running heavy apps. It is a consequence of engineering maximum power into a laptop sized box. In spite of the MBPs modern power, they run cooler than previous PBs like the G3s.

Welcome to the MacNN Forums!

40-42C is a very acceptable temperature range. It will NOT damage your machine as long as those fans keep running. And frankly, the only time I hear my fans is when I'm making my MBP work hard AND it's very quiet, so the fans running isn't a problem for me.

For apps that help manage temperatures in Windows, check out our Alternative Operating Systems forum-it's the place for anything about running anything except OS X on a Mac.

And again, WELCOME!
