I've got an older iBook (Graphite G3 366, pre-DVD drive) that I putter with from time to time. Its crazy slow (64 mb ram, bogged down with all sorts of useless 3rd party extensions and apps that I foolishly downloaded in my youth) so its mostly just decoration. But, I decided that tonight's the night, and I found my OS 9 Installation CD and am in the process of doing a clean re-install. A few minutes into the installation, ti told me that there was an error with the HD that the program could not fix, and would I like to abort or ignore? I chose to ignore, and its been happily re-installing ever since.
My question is, what other signs should I be looking for that Mr. iBook is nearing his end? Are there any (free and easy) steps I can take to prolong his life, or should I just accept his old age and senility (and not start writing the Great Canadian Novel on this computer)? There's nothing on this computer that I can't afford to lose when it bites the dust, but it's nice not being tethered to my desk.
**edit: OS has been reinstalled, but when I try to boot from the HD, I get "error type 102" and a suggestion to restart with extensions temporarily turned off. When I do so, I still get this error. How can I get past this? My ultimate goal is to just wipe everything, and start fresh.
