Can anyone give me any tips on how to network to a PC - a Dell laptop running windows XP?
I have done the obvious things and looked in help in both computers. the sticking point seems to be I don't know the IP address of the Dell - how do I find that? Windows help is no help at all.

Any other tips? I doubt if this will be the only problem. Do I plug them togehter with an ehternet cable? Or if both computers are on wireless is that good enlough?
thanks for the help.

Not Powerbook or MBP specific but...

On the PC, right-click a folder or volume and select Properties. Go to the Sharing tab and set options.

On the Mac, you may be able to connect directly using the Network icon in any Finder window once sharing is enabled on the PC. If not, from the Go menu in the Finder, select Connect to Server. Type in smb://<ip address>/. You may have to add C$ after the last / to indicate connecting to the PC's C drive. To get the IP address on the PC: Control Panels->Network Connections->open the connection you are using, either wired or wireless->Support tab.

I'm going to say that this issue is finished. Marty, if you have any other questions about networking (any at all!) please post in the Networking forum. That's what it's there for!
