I'm on the market for MacBook Pro laptop, but like everyone else I don't want to buy one until the next CPU upgrade (Plus Im waiting on Adobe Photoshop CS3).

Does anyone know what the next speed of Intel CPU's are going to be? I herd rumors of a Quad CPU for notebooks also when is Apple going SATA in their laptops?

A new chipset, code name Santa Rosa, will be released in the Spring: faster FSB (to 800Mhz from 667Mhz), more memory (to 4GB from 3.2GB), and flash memory acceleration (code name Robson). The new CPUs for the 800Mhz bus will be largely unchanged from the current Merom, probably a clockrate increase to 2.4 or 2.6Ghz.

A new CPU, code name Penryn, will be released in the Fall: process shrink (to 45nm from 65 nm) means higher clockrates, lower power consumption, and more cache. Intel announced a couple weeks ago that Penryn tapped out and the 45nm process is working well.

Intel has mentioned a mobile quad a few times, but there's nothing definite about it yet.

All of the Intel laptops use SATA for the internal hard drives.

So which CPU would enable us to go to 4 GBs instead of 3 GBs?

IIRC, it has something to do with the computer wanting to reserve some memory addresses for its own use which makes it inaccessible to the user.

Would Santa Rosa enable us to finally hit 4 GBs or would it be the next one after that? Or is it an OS X problem?

It's not a limitation of the CPU and it's not an OS X problem either. The current Napa chipset imposes a ~3.2GB RAM limit. The upcoming Santa Rosa chipset will enable 4GB.
