Hey Folks,

I'm just wondering if anyone here uses X-Plane on their Macbook. Does the integrated graphics handle the latest version? It's pretty much the only thing that is going to determine whether I end up with a MB or a MBP (and I would really love to save myself close to $1000 by getting the MB if I can!!) Thanks in advance!

I run it on an MBP with the 256MB ATI X1600 and it's not even adequate all the time. It may be better if you turn the settings down quite a bit but it's not going to work extremely well.

Really... Well that's not good news. I really didn't want to spend the extra dough for the Pro, but it sounds like you're having problems anyways... Hmmm. I suppose I could run bootcamp to use Microsoft Flightsim, but I'm trying to get away from Windows altogether... Just when I thought I could get away from PC eh?

Thanks,

GS

I am no wiz in regards to video cards, but I have a ATI Radeon Pro 9800 (128MB) on a dual 1.8 G5, and it runs really smooth. I have the 8.21 version, and I do not know if the have a UB version yet (I noticed that the latest version is 8.5).
The full install, with sceneries, takes up over 32GB.
..... ovdje se glasovi odljepljuju iz rijeći i niko nikoga ništa ne razumije.

I wouldn't call it problems, but rather sometimes low framerates in weather and with lots of scenery. I also wouldn't expect MS Flight Sim to excel on any machine with integrated graphics either.

Cool. Thanks for the advice guys. My purchase is going to be within a month, so its getting down to the final decision.

So, here is the next question: Who here thinks a dedicated graphics card, firewire 800 vs 400, and a slightly faster processor is worth $900? (screen size, colour, lighted keyboard, and a 40 Gb larger HD I believe are negligable)

$2010 for Macbook taxes in with applecare (education discount)
VERSUS
$2900 for MBPro taxes in with applecare (education discount)

Is it really worth it??

Thanks,

GS
