When sending mail Sent doesn't change to Sending

My daughter has a brand new Intel Core Duo MacBook which works flawlessly, with the exception of one problem. When using Mail to send mail, the "Sent" folder/mail box, the one that looks like a paper airplane, doesn't change to "Sending" with the spinning wheel while mail is being sent. When the message is eventually finished being sent, the "swooching" sound is heard and the sent message does end up in the "Sent" folder. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Probably it's sent so fast that there's no chance to change the graphic. If it still works fine, what's the problem?
