A client of mine would like to have this done. She currently has a G4 500mhz vga tibook and is interested in doing an upgrade. I would like to know what all will be needed in terms of parts to complete the upgrade.

I have been to Ifixit.com and there is no mention that the optical drive from a onyx/mercury will or will not work in a DVI tibook. will a new drive need to be purchased or can I get away with the current drive.

also about the backplate the vga port will be too small to get a dvi port in there so where would I get that part. Is it a assembly or just a removable part
anything else that should be known for an upgrade?

For personal reasons my client will not be replacing it.

If your client won't replace it, then your client is not going to get DVI. Case designs changed, heat sinks changed. It would be much easier to get a new machine or buy a used or refurbished one.

Does that mean that there is NO way it can be done? Please elaborate. Even if it takes replacing the bottom half it will need to be done

You'd have to replace at least the bottom case and logic board, and probably the top case and possibly the display.. At that point, she pretty much has a new computer, which may not jive with her "personal reasons."

Well, nothing is impossible. ATM there is a PBG4 Titanium motherboard with DVI on eBay, if like to try... But it surely won't fit into your old case.

Specs of processors, ports, etc on the various 'Books can be found here: Apple PowerBook G4 Specs @ EveryMac.com
