hey all,ran into a little problem with my ibook was setting up the os was all done and i wanted to put a password for my name,had to get door and kids got on it and entered a password on it.and they dont remember what it was,is there away i can retrieve it or should i just reinstall the os thxs

well if it was a clean install you didnt loose anything apart from time!

I would just reinstall if you cant loose anythig but time!!

I love putting password on other pcs in my house its so fun to see the user try and get it back!

You should be able to boot off the OS X CD and reset the admin password from the menu across the top of the screen.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

for some reason i can not get my mac to boot from the cd.I have tried to hold the c button down while rebooting with cd in drive,that did nor work.Have also tried holding the option button but all i get is a boot from hard drive when it boots from hard drive i have to loggin,and i dont know the password.

The front door probably could have waited the two seconds it would have taken to enter a password. In any case, you could try an external drive if you have one. Or put the iBook in target disk mode, attach to another machine, then use the reset utility through that machine.
