I am about to take the plunge and upgrade from an iBook G4 to a Macbook, prime reason being for photo editing. I read on another forum that Aperture runs much better on the MBP due to the dedicated graphics card. Is this true? I understand I don't need a fancy 3D card for Photoshop etc, but they seemd to imply the interface in Aperture used the 3D card.

Many thanks!
MBP 2.16ghz 15"
iMac G5 1.6Ghz 17"
Powermac 7200/120

Yes, Aperture runs better on the MBP since it makes considerable use of the graphics card for applying effects in realtime.

I have a Core 1 Duo and Apature ran pretty well, but the magnifying glass deal is SLOW!

It is actually running great on my C2D Macbook with 2GB of RAM. I compared it to a friend's MBP also with 2GB of RAM and we couldn't notice any difference at all (working with the same RAW files on each). Even the loupe tool worked with no noticable speed difference.

Thats good news I am toying with the idea of picking up a MB but have second thoughts like most power users that the graphics card will hinder proformance.
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)
