i'm told they used to hit the screens on some mac laptops.

is this still an issue?

someone's suggested that i should consider a microfibre screen protector, another says it's a waste of money.

If you want to be on the safe side, simply use that foam thing the laptop is delivered with ... but I doubt they touch the screen anyway ...

I haven't read about that being a problem for a long time. I have a Radtech microfiber protector, but I don't use it much anymore. It can't hurt, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'm guessing the warranty would replace the screen if this happened anyway, so if it doesn't do it in the first year or so, I wouldn't worry.

They do touch, but not hard enough to leave more than a faint dusty imprint (which is only noticeable after a few weeks, with the screen off, in the correct light) that wipes right off. I wouldn't be too concerned; it's nowhere near as bad as the G4 iBook, which drove me up the wall.
