My Macbook Pro just suffered a fall from a place that destroyed it's LCD. Fortunately, it appeared to boot up just fine so I had the local Mac Repair place replace my display. Today, two weeks later, they're telling me that the system will shut off if the display is closed past it's vertical position. They're talking about sending it to Apple, and I'm all... "I could have done that myself..."

So my question for you guys is;
Is there any wire that would cause this kind of short that would be disturbed with a display replacement?

I took my laptop around showing people the damage, so I'd imagine that if it were in a position to short that it would have done it then as well.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like taking it to an unauthorized dealer was a mistake. If you paid more than $100 you might want to consider taking them to small claims court for not properly installing the screen. It only costs $50 to file, and they will probably settle with you as soon as the get the suit delivered to them. Just go down to your local court office. Its pretty easy to do.

Actually, they're authorized. I went in and they found the problem... the weird thing is that my display brightness controls do not work anymore. All the other buttons do, but f1 and f2 don't want to work like they used to.

well considering that they are an uathorized repair shop I would get their address and information. Call apple, insist on speaking to a manager and battle it out. My guess is that either an Authorized shop means nothing, or that they will make it work again for free.

Better yet, you paid the Authorized shop to fix the screen and restore it to its original condition. I would demand the shop that they fix it, weather that means they send it to apple at their expense or not. Its not your problem that they hooked it up wrong. The second they refuse, talk to a manager and threaten the suit. If they don't cooperate go down to the court. Im 100% serious.

My brother's wife got some work done on her teeth, and the dentist used some new Sandblasting stuff that was new technology, that he wasn't trained in and cracked one of her teeth. He fixed it best he could without telling them. So my brother sued him for the $200 they owed him, plus the $600 to get another dentist fix the damages. The crappy dentist settled cause no one wants to waste a whole day going to court, and especially when they know they have a good chance of atleast loosing half of the remedy payment.

$50, local court house, 20 minutes. Easy.
