I need some help with my Macbook.
While copying a DVD using Toast and I got up to cheek on it and I felt some static electricity and after that my Mac does not work.
It will show something on the screen for a second or two then the screen goes dark and nothing happens. When I restart it, it makes a loud beep.
I fear the hard drive is dead.
Any ideas?

if you have another mac (any mac) connect the 2 via firewire and then go to migration assistant and see if you can transfer all the information from your macbook to the other mac.

put the reinstall dvd (the 1st one) in the mac and when you power it on, hold down the "c" button. that would bypass the hard drive. you might have to put in the dvd, then hold the powerbutton until it turns off again and then turn it back on while holding "c"

When you say "the screen goes dark," do you mean that the machine shuts off completely or is just the backlight going off or all video on this display disappears?

Well I finally got something to stay on the screen.
I have the OS X Install Disc 1.
On the screen it says “Welcome to the Mac OS X installer”
But nothing happens when I click on anything.
