My 15" G4 powerbook started making a weird consistent crackling noise. This is persisting now for a few hours and it has now started to make another noise in addition to that which resembles the steadiness of a siren but i can not describe the noise maybe like a low tone squealing, it is very odd. not extremely loud but loud enough to notice if you werent listening for it. Any ideas? has anybody heard of this? Thank You

It sounds like you are getting an AC hum on your speaker. Try turning off speaker volume and see if it persists.

Sometimes when a capacitor is failing it will cause the speaker to squeak.

Does it sound like a CD drive or hard drive sticking? Feel any vibration?

I turned the volume down(completely off) the noise persisted, I unplugged the AC adapter and most of the noise vanished. no vibration or anything along those lines. there is still a consistent noise without the AC adapter though. What exactly does that indicate though, a bad adapter? Thank you for the help.

Try the following and see if you hear any differences:

1. Turning screen brightness down & back up

2. Insert a Cd and accesss

3. try loading a large file from Hard drive
