So I went to take my 466Mhz clamshell out of standby tonight. It wouldn't. The little green LED kept pulsating, mocking me. I went and got my power adapter, plugged it in...and the little color-change ring was green.

At that point, I could get the iBook out of standby, and SlimBatteryMonitor told me that the battery was "Charged, 0% full". The power indicator stayed green. The iBook started acting weird - the LCD backlight went out and wouldn't come on for a few minutes. I finally got it shut down, and after it was completely off, the power indicator turned orange, leading me to think the battery would start charging.

Now whenever I try to boot my iBook, the indicator turns green. It won't go orange unless the iBook is completely off.

I've run the battery down accidentally before by leaving it in standby, and eventally it just shuts off completely. I've never had this happen before.

Did I kill my battery? I bought a replacement from Batteries+ and I'm pretty sure it's still under warranty, so if I killed the regulator chip in it or something, I want to exchange it while I still can.

Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you plug it in and let it completely recharge? It could just need some time to "regroup."

It's been charging since I posted with the iBook totally off. I'll have to take a look at it when I get home tonight to see if it's going to work again.

@ballistik - I got around six hours with the iBook on, at full brightness, and wireless on. It could be on standby for several days unplugged before it drained the battery to the point that it turned off completely.

Well, I let the battery charge for more than 12 hours, and it seems fine.

The display, however...if I tilt it at all at any time, the backlight goes in and out very sporadically. Maybe it's just a coincidence...I have an extra backlight from another clamshell that I might try if I decide to disassemble this thing anytime soon...if I bang around on the display, the backlight doesn't go out. Maybe the backlight power cable is crimped or something. Oh well...
