So activity monitor is showing that the 'system' is using about 40% of the cpu, and I'm just web browsing in SeaMonkey. What gives? On top of that, 'user' stuff is frequently taking it to 100%

Could you post a snap of the window? There's probably something else that's causing the trouble.

Can you also post your specs, I too had the same issue with my powerbook and I'm curious if the your hardware was also the same.

I use Firefox and dont have that issue so it might be the browser having issues loading java or something to that effect. Please dont tell me your looking at Myspace...lol

Could be that - I've been trying to replicate, and thankfully no luck lately - it could be a seamonkey issue since I keep it open for weeks at a time...
I have a G4 1.67 PB.

Myspace is a huge cpu and memory hog... Also, even on the latest webkit build flash just...is slow, and so is java. Many websites with lots of flash take up a lot of cpu power on my 1.67 g4 whereas on a P4 or other comparable pc they are fine.
