hi mac experts,

I just bought an iBoook G3 on ebay and i'm a first time mac user. the ibook G3 powered up and a grey screen with a dark grey apple in the center came up. I guess this is the part where the login screen will appear? however, that didn;t happen. I tried a few times and left it on for 5 minutes but still no login screen. The kepboard responded to num lock and caps lock but still no login screen. am i mising something or is the ibook defective? how can i troubleshoot and how do i fix it? thanks!

Sorry, I just had to respond to the question about the "loin" screen.

When you get the gray apple, do you have the little spinning gear below it? If not, or if the gear spins and freezes without switching over to the blue login screen, you may need to reinstall the OS. Hopefully, you got install disks with your purchase.

hi,
thanks for the reply. i don;t see anything except the stationary grey apple icon. no gear or anything and i don;t have the install disk. is it definitely a O/S problem that can be fixed by reinstalling the OS? I think the OS is OS 10.2 Jaguar. Thanks!
