I am looking to make my screen brighter by replacing the ibooks screen backlight psu with that of a powerbook 12"

I also plan on installing some neodynium speakers with an internal amp in the cavity of the ibook where the old ones were, if I can I would like to add a small sub-woofer in the space under the trackpad, I believe I spotted a cavity.

I had my ibook on the floor a few months ago and trod on the screen after avoiding a bee, no cracks or any damage to the actual panel but the bit under the screen where the inverter is pops out terribly, I plan to open the whole thing up and see what I can do, the hinges also open too far..... generally buggered. But everything else works perfectly and I have kept it in very good condition.

So, to the point. Has anyone done anything like this before? I couodn't find anyone who has changed / modified / upgradidng anything within an ibook in a hackish sort of way.

This should be in the hardware hacking forum.

Good luck! I (with some other people around this hood) am trying to do some upgrades to my clamshell iBook G3. Can't wait to see what happens with your project (and mine)!
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

Right, last night I took the screen off by unscrewing those tiny little Allen bolts, of which I had to make a key for using a nail and my trusty dremel. Had a look at the inside, not promising. The inverter for the screen backlights all different from the one I wanted to put in and the magnesium alloy from that is the hinge and two prongs coming up from the hinge that attach to the screen frame are bent. So, I will more then likely some time in the future remove the hinge assembly and turn the screen round to the back of the ibook removing the back of the screen, keeping the bezel while creating some sort of shell to enclose it all. But for now, I need a laptop that works so I will do some more reasearch and not lose my main tool at school.
