so my CD drive on my macbook has malfunctioned. It makes a crazy clicking noise, which when my hands are on the keyboard can be fealt, and it doesn't eject the CD that's in it. Unfortunately there's also no way, at least that I have found so far, to manually eject a CD. I bought the computer over the summer so its obviously out of warranty, i think. Any ideas on what to do? I have taken apart my iBooks and PowerBooks in the past but as the years have gone on they have gotten more complicated.
Thanks for the input..
Chad

Argh! I decided to install XP on my Macbook Pro just for the heck of it. So I upgraded the firmware, burned the drivers disc and installed XP. Everything seemed to work fine but..
Then I tried ejecting the CD, no go. So I booted back into OS X and tried to eject the CD, nope it just makes this "bzzjjj" sound like it's trying to eject but it doesn't. I tried restarting and holding down the mouse button, same thing.
Did XP screw up my Macbook Pro? It worked fined up until I tried installing XP.
Reboot and hold down F12 - should eject install cd before splash boot screen...

Ok, so I carefully pushed the CD a bit with a credit card (while it was off) and then turned my Macbook back on and held the mouse button down.
Bingo it ejected. So I put another disc in, doh! It's stuck again.
Well at least I had the foresight to put the Mac OS X install DVD in instead of the XP CD, so less explaining to do when I bring it to the Apple Store on Monday I guess.
Thanks all.

well... that last post.. thanks much for it but unfortunately neither solution worked.. i am quite sure now its a mechanical problem.. which kinda worries me.. i mean.. i bought the macbook because i wanted something more durable than my powerbook.. well.. hopefully apple honors the 1 year warranty..
if they don't.. anyone have any experience opening macbooks? my old iBook was easy to pull apart and put back together.. my powerbook was a little rough. well very rough.. are these macbooks as easy as the old iBooks?
thanks all,
chad

I just got my MacBook friday it was a refurbished C2D 2.0 and it makes a clicking noise when I insert a cd and eject it. But once its in it runs normal. And the only cd to get stuck was the WoW dvd. If I lived less than 2 hours from an Apple store I'd probably have taken it in.

I plan on taking my MacBook in Thursday, my earliest off day from school and work, to an Apple Reseller close by. I'll let you know what they say about the clicking noises mine is making when I insert and eject cds.

I was sick all day yesterday on my only day off this week. So I didnt go out of my house to take my computer in. And the store I was going to take it to is closed on weekends so I wont be able to bring it in until next week.

I just got a MacBook 2.0 last week. Over the weekend, I was ripping music CDs onto iTunes for my ipod. I had a problem with about a dozen CD's. The importing process would stall and I would hear a lot of clicking noises. Sometimes I would be able to force quit iTunes and eventually get the CD out. Several times I had to shut down the laptop and reboot it in order to get the CD out. Does this happen if the CDs are scratched and skipping or is this a problem with my CD drive? I have also noticed that if I try to play a song from the CD that's being imported, it's all distorted. Esp if the song that I've selected hasn't been imported yet. TIA!!

Cheech... definately bring your macbook to the store and complain..
my problem was mechanical and apple refuses to replace it.. they say because of the condition of my macbook(which is must admit is pretty beat up.. it travels with me through subways, buses, taxis, bikes and more daily) that i caused the mechanical failure.. and i am not going to pay them to replace it.. so my only option is to do it myself.. no big deal. ive done this many times on my old iBooks and PowerBooks.. but I can't seem to find a replacement drive.. any ideas where to look?
