Hello all. Good new/bad news story here. My home was robbed last week. While I got essentially everything back (the police caught the kids red-handed hours later), my macbook pro took a beating. The surface of the lid (side opposite the LCD) got very scratched, and has several tiny dents. The screen and the rest of the computer are perfect. I called Apple and took it to the local Genious bar, and they sayed that since it qualifies as accidental damage, it's not covered by Apple. They said they'd just replace the whole top, screen and all, for $800-1100. So that was a no go. Checked around here (Seattle), nothing. The major on line repair places want $250-350 to replace the case itself (which is all I need). But I can't be without the computer for the week the repair will take (need it for work). Does anyone know of a better solution? Can I get the surface repainted? I can't find a decent case/cover, either. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sean

Hey There, were the kids that stole your stuff.... was one of them a girl? What were the spec's on your Macbook Pro.... Cause I almost bought a MacBook Pro from a Girl who had it listed in Tacoma, but Was actually in Seattle, and was selling it for riducuosly cheap....I bailed because it just seemed like too good a deal.... and she stated her elderly grandfather bought it for her, but she really needed a car.... Kind of weird, and probably unrelated, but I thought I might ask. Was yours a Core Duo 2, 2.16 GHZ? Basically Stock? I am in Tacoma. Her name was " Jen ", and she lived in Seattle, but was going to meet me at a Starbuck's in Rainier Beach on MLK Way...... She was really sketchy, probably a tweaker.

Both were young girls. But the police got most of my stuff, including the mbp. That's what I'm typing on. I just want to get a good, inexpensive way to repair the essentially cosmetic damage the theives did.

The police called them gang wannabes.
